Parker, CO The Clorado Bombers came into the NABA 35W Playoffs riding high and ready to make a run for the title. Their title hopes were dashed on Sunday September 22nd by the Mudcats as the Bombers lost a heartbreaker 5-4 to the eventual Champions.
Littleton, CO The Bombers finished the season 14-6 overall with a second place regular season and 13-5 record under their belts. The dissappointment of losing in the Semi's to the Mudcats was palpable after the game due to the high expectations the team had going into the playoffs. It was a fine season by all accounts but failing at the ultimate goal of breaking through for the first time and winning the league title left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
The Bombers had a number of great individual performances this year:
Bill MacDonald went 8-3 on the mound during the regular season and got the win in the first round playoff game against The Cannons. He was stellar all year pitching in a total of 13 games for the Bombers and always keeping the team in the games that he pitched and giving them a chance to win.
Andy Philemon led the team in hitting with a .564 average, 5 Home Runs and 30 RBI all while playing great defnse at Shortstop throughout the year.
Dennis White had an outstanding season turning into an RBI machine with 26 on the season to go along with a .509 average.
Ric Poland caught nearly every game during the season and handled the pitching well and became quite a threat to throw out baserunners, nailing 14 runners trying to steal on the year.
Keith Losey tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 19 including a steal of home against the Cannons in the first round of the playoffs.
Kyle Paulson had another fine season in the lead-off spot scoring 24 runs and tyng with Losey for the team lead in swipes.
Patrick Cavanaugh came back to the team late in the season and gave the Bombers several quality starts down the stretch and battled his ass off against the Mudcats in the Semi-Final loss.
Tony Walsh had another solid season finishing with a .408 average, 14 runs scored and 6 doubles.
Phil Cardella survived a pretty serious health scare and returned to the team late in the season to help out on the mound and in the dugout.
The rest of the Bombers had major contributions also including Mike Frye, Bob Prashaw, Eric Meyer, Jeff Brooks, Sherman Lodge, Kenny Reiner, Chris Schneider and Jeremy Sparks.
All in all it was a great season of baseball with a terrific group of guys.
Note from the Coach:
Bombers,
Without getting too sappy I just wanted to let everyone on the team know that this was the most enjoyable season I have had in the 11 years I have been playing in the NABA. The chemistry of this team was outstanding and we have a group of really good baseball players. Although we all felt some dissappoitment due to our loss to the Mudcats in the Semi-Fnals, I still feel this was a very successful season.
Thanks to all of you for your great attitudes with regard to the lineups each week and for giving 100% everytime you put on the Bombers uniform. I felt like the luckiest coach in the league because my team was always ready to play and we never had to worry about having enough players to field a team.
So thanks again to all of you for making this a season to remember. And also.....Pitchers and hitters report on January 14, 2014!
