Recent Weeknight League News

In a matchup of the first game for the weeknight NABA 2021 league back in early May, it was only fitting the last two teams standing were the same, with a repeat matchup of Dodgers ace Joe Borrego and Cubs ace Will Bartos.

The highly anticipated matchup didn't let down with the intensity as high as a school board mask mandate meeting, with lots of hooping and hollering with everyone hyped up for the game. With an almost sellout crowd of 86 people, the home crowd really got behind the home team Cubs and after a first inning and second inning manufactured runs by the Dodgers, the Cubs came back with two in the bottom of the third highlighted by Jarin Dorchinez triple to left center scoring SS Jorge Lovatos. Dorchinez would then come around to score on a Tyler Lewan ground out. The Cubs would also add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth after three straight hits by Juan Esparza, who then stole second, RBI double by Nick Besman, single by Lovatos and then an RBI single by Dorchinez to score Besman and then during a "sandlot" pickle, Lovatos scampered home from third, providing the fifth run for the Cubs.

The Dodgers battled back in the top of the 7th after a leadoff walk by Nick Bumstead, followed by speedster Eddie Belk with a ground out to pitcher Dorchinez, a pop-up to Lewan, and then things got dicey like a game of craps.  A fly-ball to right field that would have ended the game was dropped, allowing Nick Bumstead to score to bring the score  to 5-3. Sparks then hit a single to left, followed by a walk to the leadoff batter, and then a single to left by Parker Bullard to bring the Dodgers within one run. Dorchinez buckled down and got the next batter, Walker Ives to strikeout on a 1-2 pitch to secure the championship for the Cubs.

"we knew this was going to be a battle, and an exciting battle between us", said Bartos "long time pitching matchup against Borrego has been fun over the last number of years, so I was glad to face him tonight".

"It was another great night out here tonight, the weather was great, the fans were great, and this is why baseball is great", said CF Mike "Flo" Florenza.

The Cubs tallied 8 hits, against the Dodgers 6, which everyone knew going into the game it was going to be a pitchers duel game.

Final Pitching Stats:

Will Bartos (w) 4.1 innings, 2 earned runs, 4 hits, 2 BB, 4 k

Jarin Dorchinez (s) 2.3 innings 1 earned run, 2 hits, 2 BB, 5 k

Joe Borrego (L) 6 innings, 5 earned runs, 8 hits, 2 BB, 6k

Bartos throws consecutive no-hitter!

By AB 06/17/2021, 9:00pm MDT

The Cubs continue at the top for Denver NABA weeknight as Bartos throws his second consecutive no-hitter.

On a beautiful night for baseball the Cubs faced off against the Metro RoadRunners for the first time ever, and it was a rough first meeting being a RoadRunner as it was 3 up and 3 down for all but one inning after reigning weeknight Cy Young winner Will Bartos diced for the second outing in a row, pitching consecutive no hitters for the first time in his career, sitting down 14 RoadRunners. “I felt really great during warmups, which usually means not a good game outing, but got some quality Gatorade from the gas station to keep me hydrated and went out and just did my thing”, said Bartos after the game while doing his game prep for his Elite Baseball 12u Bartos team.  After throwing two 1-hitters last year, Bartos was able to get that elusive no hitter this year, twice. “Hopefully I did enough my last two outings that @Taylor McGregor recognizes this greatness and gets us a game at Coors Field, or at least Golden HS”, said Bartos.

The offense, which broke out last Sunday with 3 homeruns was back at it totaling 15 hits, with 5 doubles and another bomb from Breyer BamBam Mueller. 5 of 9 Cubs hitters had multiple hits (BamBam, Bartos, Bradell, Andrew Clark, Juan Esperanza).

With the win, the Cubs remain tied for first place with the Mile high Dodgers Baseball.

Next up is a battle with the Nightrain this Sunday at Denver Christian at 12:30.

Bartos No-Hits Bandits, Cubs win

By AB 06/03/2021, 8:00am MDT

The Cubs faced off against weeknight rival Bandits Wednesday night at Long Lake #1 on a beautiful evening for baseball. What has become a solid rival between the two teams over the last few years, Bartos was on top of his game with a few key hits by the Cubs to pull out the win 4-0.

Bartos threw a complete game with 14 strikeouts (4 looking), allowing one walk and one HBP in a game that took only 78 minutes to complete. This has become somewhat of a norm on weeknight games where the Cubs play the 6:15pm game and graciously allow the 8:30pm game to start on-time or even early. "I felt really good tonight and had good velocity on my fastball on both sides of the plate and had my curve ball breaking really hard. I also had a few changeups in there that kept the hitters off their feet", said Bartos after the game while doused in gatorade after the feat. "I wanted to come out and attack, I wasn't sharp in my first outing so wanted to be there for my guys tonight and show my 12 year old Elite Baseball players truly how to pitch and buckle down through any boo-boos".

Leading the offense was Bryer "Bam-Bam" Mueller going 3-3 and driving in a run. Defensively, the Cubs were perfect, committing no errors.
