Knock Shockers out of 2nd place

Arvada, CO  The Colorado Bombers finished off the 2014 regular season with a big win over the second place Shockers at Arvada High School on Sunday, August 24th.  The win by the Bombers allowed them to retain a 6th place finish for the team but had other playoff ramifications as the Grizzlies won later in the day and took over 2nd place on a tie breaker.

The Bombers will now turn around and play the Shockers in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday, September 7th with a 12:30 game at North High School.

They were led by the pitching of Bill MacDonald and Andy Philemon and a hitting barrage against 3 Shockers pitchers that was one of their biggest outbursts of the season.  MacDonald pitched 6 innings and held the Shockers hard hitting team to only 6 earned runs on the day and never allowed the Shockers to take a lead on the Bombers.  Philemon finished up with 2 innings in relief and earned the save by only allowing the Shockers 2 runs in his stint on the mound.

The hit parade was enjoyed by everyone as every single Bombers player had at least one hit in the game.  Big games were had by most of the Bombers as Kyle Paulson had 3 hits, scored 3 runs and stole a couple of bases in the leadoff spot.  Eric Meyer went 4 for 5, scored 2 runs and knocked in a couple along with 2 stolen bases.  Philemon stayed hot in the 3 hole by throwing out 3 more hits to go along with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Cleanup hitter Tony Walsh went 2 for 5 and knocked in a run, Keith Losey had 3 RBI and 2 stolen bases, Dennis White found his stroke once again and knocked in a run on a couple of hits, Jeremy Sparks had 4 RBI on the day going 2 for 5 with a long 3 run double to right field that put the game out of reach in the 8th, Sherman Lodge crossed the plate 4 time and knocked in 2, MacDonald had 2 hits and scored a run, Chris Schneider got 2 hits and an RBI and Pat Poppen knocked in a run with a single in the second.  Every player scored at least one run on the day as well showing how well-oiled the team was on this day.

The7 run 8th inning was the straw that broke the camels back as the Bombers sent 11 men to the plate in the inning and 7 in a row scored before the Shockers even had a single out.

The team is looking forward to the rematch with the Shockers in playoff round 1 on the 7th.  It should be a fun ride through the playoffs for the up and coming Bombers!
