Team wins third in a row after tough start to season

Arvada, CO  The Colorado Bombers are getting back on track after a very difficult start to the season winning their 3rd game in a row Sunday over the Cannons 15-6.

The Bombers had beaten the Spartans 14-3 on July 13th and Cricket Wireless 16-0 on July 20th and came into the game against the Cannons with a good attitude and a lot of momentum.   They were led by the pitching of starter Keith Losey who pitched a nine inning complete game and only allowed 4 earned runs for his first victory of the season.  A tandem of Andy Philemon and Dennis White caught the right hander who is usually behind the plate himself.

Offensive stars for the Bombers included Chris Schneider who had a blistering 3-5 day and 5 RBI including a bomb downt he right field line in the second inning that cleared the bases which were loaded at the time.  Kyle Paulson, Eric Meyer, Andy Philemon, Dennis White, Tony Walsh and Jeremy Sparks each scored 2 runs on the day with Sparks and Meyer getting on base 4 times each.  Sherman Lodge, Philemon and Losey all got on base 3 times as well.

Defensively the Bombers made only a single error on the day and it cost them 2 runs in the Cannons 4 run 4th inning but they also turned 2 double plays, could have had a third and the outfield of Paulson, Ian Newton, Schneider and Pat Poppen had a great day shagging fly balls except one that nobody could see off the bat in the 4th that dropped for a hit.  Poppen was especially good in the ninth as he made 2 consecutive catches on long fly balls to straight away left that ended the game for the Bombers.

The game was close throughout and the score doesn't indicate the great competetiveness of this game between the Bombers and Cannons.  The score was tied at 6 going to the 8th inning and then the Bombers got to the Cannons starter for 3 runs in the 8th and he ran out of gas in the 9th and the Bombers got 6 more runs off of Cannons relievers.

The Bombers next game is Saturday August 2nd at 12:30 with a make-up game against the Grizzlies from April 6th at Arvada West High School.  They then play on back-to-back days with a Sunday game at 9:00 A.M. against the Mudcats also at Arvada West High School.  They will also finish the suspended game against the Mudcats from June 8th that was called due to lightening.  The score of that game is 20-18 Mudcats with no outs in the top of the 9th and the Mudcats hitting.
