Another classic game between long time rivals

Aurora, CO  The Colorado Bombers and Grizzlies got together for another in a long line of contests over the years last Sunday at Rangeview High School and the Grizzlies came away with a hard fought 6-5 victory over the improving Bombers.

These two teams have been going at it for almost 10 years now and the games always seem to be closely fought battles that either team could come away with the win.  The Grizzlies won this round by scraping together just enough runs to get to the 9th inning tied and plate the winning run with 2 outs and the bases loaded in walk off fashion.

Bombers starting pitcher Bill MacDonald had an outstanding day on the mound pitching all 9 innings and throwing in the neighborhood of 150 pitches.  But MacDonald was just as effective in the 8th and 9th innings as he had been in the earlier innings finding his strikout pitch late and fanning 4 Grizzlies hitters over the last couple of innings.  He struck out 8 on the day and if the Bombers could have given him a little more help in the field and at the plate, he should have come away with his 2nd win of the year.

The Bombers knocked out 12 hits on the day led by Dennis White with 3 and Kyle Paulson with 2 hits of his own.  Also getting into the groove were Tony Walsh who was inserted into the 4 hole, Chris Schneider who kept his bat hot with another knock, Eric Meyer had a hit and newcomer Ian Newton  drove his first hit of his Bombers career to left and scored in the Bombers 3 run 8th that tied the score at 5.  Keith Losey did yomen's work behind the plate staying on the same page with MacDonald all day and got a double of his own to finish off a solid performance.

There was some controversy in the game as both teams were having issues with the plate unpire all day long and it culminated with chaos in the 7th when Sherman Lodge was called out on strikes and was none too happy about it.  Lodge also had a hit on the day to continue his resurgence at the plate.  Mike Danner pitched in with a hit and a walk for the Bombers and scored a run in the 3 run 8th as well.  Pat Poppen continued his improvement at the plate getting robbed on a solid line drive that the second basemen leapt and caught when it looked like a sure single for the newcomer.

Even though the Bombers sit at 1-5 in league play and one spot out of the basement of the 35W League Standings, they have started to show major signs of life in the last 3 contests and hope the improved play continues this week with a 9:00 A.M. game on Sunday against the Shockers at Green Mountain High School.
