The Cubs and Kokopelli's faced off for an early, chilly 8am game at Long Lake for a battle for the #2 seed, with the Cubs holding a 1/2 game lead.  It was an anticipated tough game as the first game of the series, the Cubs walked away with a 3-1 victory and both teams were going to be battling in order to move into the #2 seed.

The Cubs got things started in the top of the first with 2 out hits from 3B Bryer Mueller, followed by 1B Adam Bradell, DH Paul "The Ripper" Rummage, followed by a 3-run homer to left from RF Justin Williams to put the Cubs up 4-0.  However, a few mistakes gave the Koko's 3 runs in the bottom of the second to pull within one run.  After the first, the Cubs went 6 straight innings of 3 up 3 down and didn't manage to put any more pressure on the Koko's, which then allowed them to tie and take the lead in the 7th.  In the 8th, the  Cubs threatened with Zach Newhuis working the first walk of the game, followed by a single to right from CF Chris Murray, followed by an rbi single to left from C Todd Nester, scoring Newhuis.  After a double steal of second and third, the Cubs stranded, leaving the score 6-5 in favor of the Koko's.  After a quick bottom of the 9th from Cubs ace JD Heredia, the Cubs came up in the 9th with a groundout from Mueller, a single to right-center from Bradell, followed by a single to left from Rummage.  This brought up Justin Williams, who struck out for the second out of the inning.  LF Cole Golightly came up and was down in the count 1-2 when Bradell stole third and two pitches later, Golightly hit a double to left scoring Bradell to tie and Mueller motoring around the bases from first to score the go-ahead run.  With the Cubs leading going into the bottom of the 9th, an 0-2 count single to right started things off for the Koko's and eventually led to runners at second and third with one out and a soft single to right from Dave Westmeyer brought in 2 runs to win the game for the Koko's.

"We started off with a bang, but then went silent for way too many innings for an important game, said interim manager Adam Bradell.  Even without the offense we expect, our defense didn't execute today.  We had 9 errors as a team, and that is not gonna get you any wins".

Leading the offense was DH Paul Rumage going 4-4, scoring 2 runs.

With the loss, the Cubs move to 10-3-1 for 18AAA (20-4-2 overall), the Kokopelli's move to 10-2-2 and now lead the Cubs by half a game for the #2 seed with two regular season games remaining.
