With cooler temperatures coming off the mountains, the Cubs faced off against the Cutthroats in the regular season finale for the Denver NABA Weeknight league.  While the seedings for the playoffs were already secured, the Cubs wanted to get a few pitchers back in the rotation as postseason begins next week.  It was a trio of planned pitchers, with an unexpected fourth coming into the mix.  Righty Zach Newhuis started the game and went two innings allowing only 4 hits, striking out two and completing his first outing with no walks this season.  Pilot Nick Besman came in to pitch the 3rd & 4th, recording 1 strikeout and no hits.  Moving to the fifth, longtime Cubs lefty reserve Ace Hudson (Rip from Yellowstone looks like me) Bell took the mound for the first time in 6 years and sliced and diced the first batter........but then struggled with 3 straight walks, followed by a single and a 4th walk.  Upon that, he was relieved by 3B Bryer (BamBam) Mueller who recorded a flout, single and strikeout to close out the fifth.  "We wanted to get Zach and Flyboy a few innings to make sure they both stay sharp as we move into the playoffs.  Hudson had offered $100 to pitch an inning and that money was accepted to the local kitten rescue, so it was a generous offer from him.  We're excited for him to get on the mound a few more times in 2021", said interim manager Adam Bradell.

Offensively, the Cubs only managed 8 hits, but stayed disciplined at the plate recording 11 walks and working full counts in 11 at-bats.  Leading the offense for the Cubs was LF Justin (I swing a giant yellow banana) Williams, who was being heckeld from the Cutthroats 1 of 2 fans in the stands yelling "hey big bird, you can't hit!".  Unfortunately, for the fan who resembled George Costanza, was mistaken, as the next pitch thrown was taken out to the deepest part of the park for a 2-run homer.  "I heard the guy in the stands, and when I saw the spin on the curveball kinda hang, I just let loose and dropped a massive deuce.  It felt so relieving and exhilarating at the same time", said Williams while polishing his Bazooka cleats.  Williams finished the game going 3-4 with 5 rbi's.

With the win, the Cubs finished the regular season at 10-1-1 and host the 4th seeded Ribeye's on September 23 at 6:15pm.  Following that game, the Cutthroats will play at the Bandits at 8:30pm.
