Cubs Back On The Winning Trail

The Cubs got back to their winning ways after a 2 game losing streak by leaving the Afterburners in the dust.  What started out with extreme wind conditions at Long Lake Regional #5, when the dust and wind settled, the Cubs came out blazing with hits, totaling 16 on the day in a 7 inning affair that ended with the mercy rule and a win, 13-2.

CF Chris Murray (who has recently returned to a relationship with his bat) and 3B Bryer (BamBam) Mueller each had 3 hits, with Mueller adding to his Denver NABA Home Run lead with a 3-run homer in the 6th.

On the mound, Zach Newhuis continues his courageous comeback from Tommy John, picking up the win going 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, and 1 earned run.

Defensively, the Cubs committed only 2 errors, made a diving, inning ending fly-out in right by old-man Adam Bradell, turned 2 double plays, one of which was a step away from a triple play after 3B Bryer Mueller snagged a ground ball, stepped on third, threw to Nick (I'm a pilot) Besman at second, who then fired to Paul (the Ripper) Rumage at first, but was a millisecond to late.  "Oh come on blue, you gotta call that no matter what!", shouted Jarin Dorchinez from the bullpen.  "I've seen some triple plays on the teletube, but this would have been my first time playing in a game that this almost happened", said C Will Bartos.  "It just goes to show the level of defense we have.  Having our owner make the trade Arrenado for Mueller has paid off.  No way Nolan makes that", said Bartos.

Cubs move to 9-2 for Sundays (17-3-1 overall) and remain in second place behind the Nightrain.  With the loss, the Afterburners fall to 2-9.

Next up for the Cubs is the Ribeye's Wednesday night at Long Lake with first pitch at 8:30pm (yeah right!)
