Cubs and Cutthroats squared off at Long Lake #5 after a 32 minute delay from the 18:15 game between Bandits and Ribeye's. With a start time of 21:02, the Cubs and C-throats were already limited to a max of 1:58 minutes of game time with the field lights automatically turning off at 23:00. Fortunately, both teams like to work fast and all 7 innings were complete by 22:50, which is the first time in 2020 the Cubs have finished a complete game.
Starting pitcher (and pilot extraordinaire) Nick Besman pitched 3 solid innings giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run to pick up the win. Chris Murray pitched 2 innings in relief giving up 1 hit and Zach (Newhuisenweezelbergh.........thats German for vegan) Newhuis threw a 2 inning save.
On the offensive side, Cubs managed 9 hits, but truly didn't string anything together outside of the top of the first. DH Bryer (BamBam) Mueller got the scoring started with a 2 run triple to right-center, then scored on an RBI ground-out from benchwarmer Adam Bradell. The Cubs scored their last two runs in the top of the fifth from an rbi single by Besman and scored on a little league fake throw to second on a steal with Newhuis then scoring from third after almost meeting his Game of Thrones beheading.
Cubs move to 7-1-1 and a 3 game lead in the weeknight league, with the Cutthroats moving to 3-5-1.
Cubs move to 15-1-1 overall and have an 8am showdown with the Nightrain for first place on Saturday at Elizabeth HS.
