Link Leads 'Throats To First Win

By AP 05/07/2013, 10:30pm MDT

The Colorado Cutthroats notched their first win of 2013 in comeback fashion, taking care of the Spartans, 10-3.

Mark Link pitched a 141 pitch complete game, allowing only 1 earned run in 9 innings of work while striking out 11. It was by far the best start by a Cutthroat pitcher this season, and in typical Link fashion, he got more dominant as the game progressed.

Offensively, it took awhile for the Cutthroats to get going, but after slowly chipping away at Spartans pitching, they broke the game open late.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after three innings. Jon Bielecki led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer to pull the Cutthroats within 1. After the Spartans tacked on another run in the top of the sixth to make it 3-1, the Cutthroats' bats woke up in the bottom of the seventh.

Mike Picchetti led off with a double to right-center to start the inning, then after two strikeouts and a hit batter, Dr. Kellen Sorauf doubled to bring the Cutthroats within a run. Wes Sconce followed up with a bloop single to shallow right that scored the tying and go-ahead runs. Bielecki knocked in Sconce two batters later with a single up the middle.

Kenneth Reichelt added the exclamation point with a no-doubt 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach. Link took the mound in the 9th and registered his 10th and 11th strikeouts of the game to wrap up his complete game victory.

NEXT GAME: at Bad News Bears (3-1), Sunday, May 12th, 4:00PM, Arvada High School.
